Service Project Success Stories (cont.)

Apple Another second grade class built a supermarket in class. Using the project to learn about math, the students also studied recycling issues. The class then designed a pamphlet to educate their families and their community.

Apple Third and fourth graders learned about hunger and homelessness while growing a vegetable garden at a senior center. Regular visitations were made, during which the students and the seniors worked on the plot. Part of the produce went to the senior partner and the rest to the homeless shelter.

Apple Fifth grade students explored topics such as animal habitats, soil, and recycling in science class. To compliment this learning, they spent a class day creating a conservation area in a ravine, made trails, planted shrubs, and developed a sledding area.

Apple Eighth graders served as tutors to elementary school students, improving their own reading skills and lowering their drop-out rates.

Apple An eighth grade industrial arts class mass produced sets of large dominoes that were given to local primary schools to help students with their counting and other math skills.
